The object Conductor stepped on was none other than a black crystal, ever so slightly protruding from the snow covered ground.

Assistant watched Conductor as he so tirelessly worked on a project. A project that Assistant wasn't too fond of. He wasn't even sure what it was. He wondered if the strange inventor knew, himself. He had confined himself in the dark walls his workshop for weeks, eventually months. The grey pony just stared on, Conductor not even taking notice of him. Finally, he decided to speak up.
"Conductor, you have to stop this. It's not natural!" The pony continued his work, ignoring his old friend. Assistant continued.
"This invention, it's going too far. Ever since you went to get that stupid stone, you've been acting weird." The brown pony finally turned around. His white lab coat dragging behind on his back.
"Assistant, are you saying that you no longer like my inventions?" He looked down at the pony, who was ducking a little, in fear of what Conductor might say. Or do.
"No, I just think that this particular--"
"If you don't like my new inventions, then get out," Conductor said coldly. He turned away from the fearful assistant to continue on with his project.
"I love all of your inventions, but--"
"Enough!" Conductor yelled, causing Assistant to cower back even more. He looked at his seemingly brainwashed friend with a sad expression, his ears flattened back. "Fine, I'll leave. But to get help. This isn't over!" he said before turning to leave the workshop.
"You're right," Conductor said, turning to watch his assistant leave, though he was too already too far to hear. Behind him was a dark room, where only two glowing lights could be seen in the air. Two purple lights. Conductor glanced back at the Cornious Stone, now doubled, hanging in the dark room behind him. He smiled, almost evilly as he watched his once good friend wander from his sight.
"This isn't over."
